The “TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY” 3D Conversion was “Too Slow” to meet its intended 2016 theatrical release.

Every Terminator fan knows that “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” celebrated its 25th Anniversary this past summer. Initially, James Cameron was planning to celebrate the momentous occassion with a brand new 3D remastered re-release of his blockbuster film, timed with T2’s quarter century birthday.

With the 3D conversion costs estimated around seven million dollars, the always a visionary Jim Cameron wagered it was a low enough sum of money to make a 3D version of T2 profitable. In addition, it would be the first time in history that T2 would get a theatrical release in China! So 2016 was expected to be a very exciting year for fans of Terminator 2!

Then for unspecified reasons, there was a delay.  Maybe due to technical difficulties, or the demand of James Cameron’s infamous perfectionist ways, but the 3D conversion took longer than initially expected and was finally finished this past September (as reported here).

Due to the long delay, all the tentative 2016 release dates DMG and STUDIOCANAL planned for the film were shelved and a big premiere party in China hosted by none other than actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was postponed. And a lot of early promoting went to waste.

Now, even Chinese fans will be seeing “Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D” later than anticipated, maybe sometime in early 2017.  Unfortunately, when it comes to waiting for a new Terminator movie to be released in theaters, the fans are used to waiting.

Expect “TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY 3D” to be released theatrically sometime in 2017.

We’ll be back.

  1. How can & how did they mess up the china release ? so they started marketing this film, only to get Chinese audiences interested and then leave them with nothing, this could possible turn a spell on for box office disaster when its actually release next year. If there in the editing room putting together the 3d conversion and cant see it is not ready why start marketing? it doesn’t add up logically, maybe the interest wasn’t there yet from the Chinese market, perhaps paramounts got involvement maybe they have something in store with terminator in the future and would prefer this release wasn’t released too far off something there planning, some things abound and it better of been a worthy decision to cancel the films release while it was already in marketing faze
