Paramount Pictures cancelling the May 2017 release date of the next TERMINATOR film was expected.

An article by Deadline.com strangely caught traction today among entertainment industry websites and (some) Terminator fans alike when they reported that the planned sequel to “TERMINATOR GENISYS” was officially removed from Paramount Picture’s release date schedule of May 19, 2017.  The oddest thing about the report (and the enormous reaction it received) was this story was treated by many news outlets like it was something new… a breaking piece of shocking journalism about the state of the Terminator Franchise.. with no previous indicators that this date cancellation was slated to occur.  But well informed Terminator fans already knew this was going to happen, and this date cancellation was just an expected formality.

As reported in this SKYNET’S ARMY news article on October 7th, 2015, Skydance Media Chief Creative Officer Dana Goldberg weighed in regarding the future of the Terminator franchise:

“We are not going to begin production at the beginning of next year, because again, it would be silly to not have to worry about what audiences have to say. We plan to use data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved, and what maybe didn’t work for them, so that the next (step) we take with the franchise is the right one.”

Once Dana Goldberg announced a new Terminator film would not begin production the beginning of 2016 as originally planned, everyone should have realized the original planned release date of May 19, 2017 would not hold either.  A special effects rich, big budget film from a franchise like the Terminator requires more than a year to create.  Once Dana indicated it wouldn’t start as scheduled, there is no way a Terminator film would hit theaters as scheduled.

Now in no way shape or form does this mean we have seen the last Terminator film from Skydance, nor does it mean the story threads from Genisys won’t be continued in some shape or form in future installments.  As Dana Goldberg announced…

Do we intend to have a next step of Terminator? Yes, we do.

So as before, now all Terminator fans can do is wait and see what Skydance has in store for us next.  But make no mistake Terminator fans… the news of the day is… THERE IS NO NEWS. The state of the Terminator Franchise is the same today as it was this past October. This release date cancellation was expected.

  1. Work like before, you cannot. Production: intelligently and “openly”; that means: the site of the shooting and the publication of the fragments; the viewer should know what happens. T6 beginning; the film is based, but it is necessary to refleet and interpreted; T 6.2-it’s like a sequel to the T 5; but important new character: dog-Terminator: scent and noveity; but dog-Terminator is a prototype; without author, knows as fact, prototype worked as a film cannot. But I get to the shooting area cannot, for reasons of complexity, but may get, and work on the film.
